USD hosts 2008 national women�s research conference

USD hosts 2008 national womenâ�?�?s research conference The University of South Dakota is hosting â�?�?Women and Power,â�? its national Womenâ�?�?s Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity Conference, Oct. 3-4. â�?�?Women and Power,â�? organized by the Department of Englishâ�?�?s Womenâ�?�?s Studies Program, will feature scholarly and creative work by presenters from across the country. Presentation topics will include power and history, politics, religion, justice, popular culture, the military, and more. The schedule of events features a reception at 6 p.m. on Oct. 3 in Old Main followed by a complete day of activities on Oct. 4, including presentations of papers and research beginning at 9 a.m. in Old Main. Elizabeth J. Tisdell, Ed.D, associate professor of adult education and coordinator of the doctoral program in adult education at Penn State-Harrisburg, will give the keynote address at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 4 in Farber Hall. Tisdellâ�?�?s research includes developing critical media literacy among adult learners, spirituality and culture in adult development and adult learning, critical and feminist pedagogy, and diversity and equity and social justice issues in adult education. Her work has appeared in the Adult Education Quarterly and many edited books on adult education, including the 2000 edition of the Handbook in Adult Education. The conference concludes with a banquet at 6:30 p.m. at the Buffalo Run Winery in Vermillion.
