USD soccer loses
2-1 to Valparaiso The University of South Dakota soccer team suffered a heart breaking loss as Valparaiso University hit the game-winning shot with three minutes remaining to gain a 2-1 victory over the Coyotes on Sunday afternoon. USD falls to 3-6 overall while Valparaiso improves to 7-1-1 overall. Valparaiso started off the game getting an early goal in the 14th minute of the game to earn a 1-0 advantage. South Dakota��?s Sarah Halbach (Sr., St. Paul, MN) answered back in the 59th minute as she scored a goal off an assist with Savanna Lokkesmoe (So., Maple Grove, MN) to tie the score at 1-1. Valparaiso however was able to come out on top as they scored the game winning goal at 87:25 as Valpo��?s Sarah Melhorn hit a header in for her first goal of the season. The Coyotes finished the game with four shots on goal while Valparaiso had 12 shots on goal. USD��?s goalkeeper Jen Ogren (So., Raymore, MO) played all 90 minutes and had 10 saves. ��?The team played real well and deserved the win, it was a great effort,� said head coach Marcia Oliveira. USD will return to action on Friday, Sept. 26 facing University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls at 7 p.m.
