Vermillion hosts first Harvest of the Arts Festival The Vermillion Area Arts Council hosts its first Harvest of the Arts Festival, featuring a variety of visual artists from across the region, local musical and dance acts, literary readings, a film showing, and a youth art area. A silent auction, potluck dinner, and musical dance will top of the event. The Arts Council will also hold a short annual meeting after the potluck. Admission to the festival is free. The festival opens at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Washington Street Arts Center, 202 S. Washington St.�? From 2-5 p.m., the event features art sales of paintings, books, ceramics, photographs, screen prints, ledger art, hair wraps, crocheted items, weavings, jewelry, and other items. Also at this time, the festival will feature performances of dance and acoustic music as well as a film showing by documentary filmmaker Charles Nauman from 3-4 p.m. Artists and groups displaying and selling their works include: Gail Bickel, Anna and Chad Cable, Patricia Downey, Grace Freeman, Karl Hermanson, Paige Keck, Dan Kilbride, Cathy Mitchell, Kathy Oakie, Amy Petrik, Bill Reetz, Darci Sammelson, Rudo Samudzi, Coleen Satyshur, Jen Shaheen, Sharing the Dream, Smithsonian Museumâ�?�?s Between Fences project, Kate Vermillion, Vermillion Literary Project, Masahiro Wadeyama, and more. From 2-7:30 p.m., the Vermillion Area Arts Council will display items for a silent auction in the main sanctuary of the arts center. These will include paintings, ceramics, weavings, audio and video recordings, photographs, mosaics, pottery, screen prints, ledger drawings, culinary and sewing arts, books, wine and more. Artists participating in the auction include Ina Anderberg, John Banasiak, Brian Bedard, Janet Beeman, Grete Bodogaard, Buffalo Run Winery, Anna Cable, Chad Cable, Nancy Carlsen, Teri Lee Davenport, Amy Fill, Sharon Gray, Susan Heggestad, Mike Hill, Pam Kadous, Nancy Losacker, Michele Mechling, Charles Nauman, Amy Petrik, Bruce Preheim, Lee Ann Roripaugh, Sandy Robertson, Rudo Samudzi, Kate Vermillion, Masahiro Wadeyama, Jerry Wilson, Norma Wilson, Steven Yarbrough and others. Poetry and prose readings also take place in the arts centerâ�?�?s main sanctuary from 2:30-4:30 p.m. hosted�? by Sara Kniffen and featuring Charles Nauman, Laura Furlan, Michelle Rogge Gannon, Courtney Huse-Wika, Annie Christain, Marcella Remund, Brian Bedard, April Gawboy, Lee Ann Roripaugh, Jerry Wilson and Norma Wilson. Musical entertainment during the community potluck includes Northern Sky, an award-winning folk duo featuring Laura Brokus and Kristin Matuska of Sioux Falls, acoustic duo Ed Johnson and Michelle Martin, and Public Domainâ�?�?s Nick Schwebach and Owen DeJong. After a brief annual meeting, during which VAAC President Norma Wilson will outline the organizationâ�?�?s vision for the coming year, Vermillion-based rock band Narrative Feed will cap off the night with a mixture of classic rock tunes and originals from 9-11 p.m.
