National Merit semifinalists The National Merit Scholarship Program and the Vermillion High School is proud to announce the semifinalists for 2009: Alicia Enterman, Jiwen Li, Jacob Plette, and April Sun. Officials of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced the names of the semifinalists in the 54th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,200 National Merit Scholarships, worth more than $35 million, that will be offered next spring. About 90 percent of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing and approximately half of the finalist will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title. NMSC, a not-for-profit organization was established to conduct the annual National Merit Program. Scholarships are underwritten by NMSCâ�?�?s own funds and approximately 500 business organizations and higher education institutions that share NMSCâ�?�?s goals of honoring the nationâ�?�?s scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence.
