Classics and flicks at library During the upcoming months, a series of classics and flicks are scheduled. These adult programs will include Classic American novels in literature and their film adaptations. Following the showing of the films, a brief discussion will be held to examine the cultural and literary contexts of the books, as well as to share comments on the quality of the interpretations of the film versions. On Thursday, Oct. 23 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Community Room of the library, Carson McCuller?s The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter is the first featured selection that will be shown and discussed. Donna Gross, retired Vermillion High School English teacher, will be facilitating this discussion. Hot drinks and popcorn will be provided. Copies of this book about misfits in a small southern town in the 1930s, who yearn for escape from their voiceless and unfortunate lives of depravation and rejection, are available at the circulation desk. For more information about this event, call the library at 677-7060 or e-mail vpl@sdln.net.
