Clubs and Organizations VFW Auxiliary meets VFW Auxiliary meets The VFW Auxiliary to Clay Post #3061 of Vermillion met on Tuesday evening, Sept. 16. Opal Smith offered the opening prayer. Joyce Stahlecker was escorted to the Presidentâ�?�?s Station and introduced to the members. Her friend, Jackie Simonson, was also introduced. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Treasurerâ�?�?s reports for June, July and August were read and filed, subject to audit. Invoices were presented for payment and later in the meeting were approved. They included copy paper and labels, Bingo expenses and funeral lunch supplies. Awards received from the department convention were $10 for cancer donations, highest percentage in membership category, $25 for cancer membership and $5 for most Operation Uplink cards passed out. Donna Schafer received $8 for Personal Poppy Award. Auxiliary received citations for Voice of Democracy, Veterans and Family Support, Legislative, Patriotic Pen, hospital, Coins for Cancer and 100 percent in membership. Fall council meeting will be Sept. 30 and the 21st National President Homecoming will be in Omaha Sept. 25-28. Committee reports were on funeral, Bingo, legislative, cards mailed, hospital equipment on loan, cribbage playing at nursing home, Road to Recovery, Hospice, Civic Council and Welcome Table. The VFW Auxiliary will be selling poppies on Nov. 7. Pillow cleaning will be Oct. 25. We purchased cancer pins and will be given to women having mammograms during the month of October. We gave monetary gifts to Snowball Express, Operation Uplink and UnMet Needs. We will give our Christmas donations to the five veteransâ�?�? hospitals now so they can be used for veteransâ�?�? holiday special projects. Audit report for April, May and June 2008 was approved. District President Joyce Stahlecker spoke to the auxiliary and said the district fall meeting will be Oct. 5 at Beresford at 2 p.m. Joyce was presented with a gift of South Dakota made soap. Meeting adjourned to reopen on Oct. 21.
