Froke issued new contract Superintendent Mark Froke has been issued a new, one-year contract by the Vermillion School Board. The board took this action Thursday, Oct. 2. Under this contract, Froke will begin as new employee with the school district, and no accumulated benefits from his previous time with the district have been carried over. The Vermillion School Board accepted Froke?s resignation during a special meeting Sept. 19. At that same meeting, after resigning, Froke submitted an application to the board for the superintendent?s position. The resignation and posrehiring of Froke as Vermillion?s superintendent allow him to access state retirement benefits. ?I turned 55 in October, Froke told the Plain Talk in late September. ?In order to access South Dakota retirement benefits, you have to reach the age of 55 plus be employed for a required number of years of service. ?To collect the retirement benefits, you need to resign, Froke said. State law requires a gap of at least one day between one?s resignation and rehiring. Froke returned to work as superintendent on Oct. 6.
