Gonzaga law professor to present 2008 Gunderson Lecture The University of South Dakota School of Law has announced that James R. McCurdy, professor of law at Gonzaga University School of Law in Spokane, WA, will present the 2008 Clark Y. Gunderson Lecture, the USD School of Law��?s preeminent annual lecture. The lecture is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Oct. 20 in the law school courtroom on the USD campus. McCurdy began teaching in 1977 after practicing law in natural resources and the environmental fields as well as Indian law. His teaching areas include sports law, environmental dispute resolution, oil and gas law and administrative law. The author of the mineral rights chapter in a legal treatise, McCurdy has worked on special projects with the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights and with the Bureau of Indian Affairs. In addition to his appointment by the governor of Washington to represent the state on the Environmental Improvement Basin Commission, McCurdy has a special interest in mediation of disputes and serves as a member of the board of directors, Northwest Conflict Management Center. The Gunderson Lecture is the law school��?s pre-eminent annual lecture and honors the memory of Clark Y. Gunderson, who devoted his life to legal education and public service. In 1934, he began his 30-year tenure as a professor at the USD School of Law, his alma mater. Gunderson taught at USD until his death in 1964. The annual lecture, which is open to USD students and the public, is provided through the LSF Trust Fund established by the Gunderson family.
