Jeana Hoffman signs pro contract Jeana Hoffman, a former standout on The University of South Dakota womenâ�?�?s basketball team, has signed to play for a professional team in Holland. Hoffman will play for Leiderdorp, which is the highest national league in Holland. The team Hoffman will be a part of is called Basketball Vereniging Leiderdorp (BV Leiderdorp) which directly translates from Dutch to English as the Leiderdorp Basketball Association. Hoffman will be coached by Joris Zandbergen. Hoffman flies to Holland this week and once arriving, the team will head to Belgium for training camp with scrimmages set for Sept. 13-14. The teamâ�?�?s first official game is set for Sept. 27. BV Leiderdorp will play 27 regular-season games, with the regular season concluding on April 18, 2009 and playoff competition to follow. â�?�?Iâ�?�?m really excited about it,â�? Hoffman said. â�?�?Itâ�?�?s kind of a dream of mine to be able to play professionally. It should be a fun experience being in a different country and experiencing the different culture and styles of basketball.â�? Hoffman, a Mitchell graduate, played for two seasons at USD (2006-08) and had a stellar basketball career in which she helped lead the Coyotes to their first-ever NCAA Division II National Championship game. She was named the North Central Conference MVP in 2007-08 and was also named the MVP of the NCC Tournament as the Coyotes won both regular-season and postseason NCC crowns. She was a Daktronics NCAA Division II Womenâ�?�?s All-American Basketball Team selection, where she was named to the third team. Hoffman averaged 17.6 points and 3.7 rebounds a game for USD in 2007-08 and played an integral role in helping the Coyotes to a 33-2 mark, one which included a 31-game winning streak. Hoffman also added 48 steals and hit 127-of-309 shots from the three-point line. â�?�?Obviously, Iâ�?�?ve had a lot of great memories while playing at USD,â�? Hoffman said. â�?�?On this past season, even though we fell one game short, I think our success was a testament to what teamwork and hard work can do for a team.â�? In 2006-07, Hoffman was named the NCCâ�?�?s Newcomer of the Year and was also selected All-NCC. She averaged 11.7 points and 3.2 rebounds a game as USD posted a 22-9 mark. In her two-year Coyote career, Hoffman averaged 14.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and two assists a game. In her overall four-year collegiate career, which included two years at Texas State, Hoffman averaged 11 points and three rebounds a contest. She shot 38 percent from three-point range and hit 41.2 percent of her field-goal attempts.
