Melba Evelyn Dwyer Melba Evelyn Dwyer Melba Evelyn (Johnson) Dwyer, 94, of Vermillion passed away early Thursday, Sept. 25 in her sleep at the Sanford Vermillion Care Center in Vermillion. Melba was born in Vermillion on January 26, 1914 to Howard and Levinia Johnson. She grew up in the Vermillion area on a farm and attended Vermillion schools. She graduated from Vermillion High School in 1931. After graduation Melba held several long term jobs for the city and the county treasurer��?s office, as well as working for Silverman��?s. She was also a member of the St Agnes Catholic Church. Melba married Harold Dwyer in January of 1942 at St. Patrick��?s Catholic Church in Wakonda. She and Harold led a happy and fun life and had one son. Melba focused on taking care of her family but also assisted her husband in his law office during tax season. Harold preceded Melba in death as did her parents and an older sister, Mabel. She is survived by her only son, Doug, of Lawrence, KS, two grandchildren Jessica (Olathe, KS) and Brian (Wichita, KS), and her two sisters-in-law Elizabeth Asbra and Donna Dwyer, both of Sioux City, IA. Melba was a kind-hearted, loving individual who will be greatly missed. Funeral services were held on Monday, Sept. 29 at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Vermillion with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Vermillion.
