USD soccer beats
North Dakota 4-2 The University of South Dakota soccer team snapped its four-game losing streak with a 4-2 win over the University of North Dakota on Sunday afternoon in Grand Forks, ND. The Fighting Sioux hit the first goal of the game in the 17th minute but USD answered back right away as Sarah Halbach (Sr., St. Paul, MN) put one in the back of the net within the next minute to tie it up. The Coyotes then took the lead in the 20th minute as Angela O��?Loughlin (Sr., Broomfield, CO) scored her first goal of the season to put USD up 2-1. South Dakota never looked back as Katie Quinones (So., Rochester, MN) added back-to-back goals in the 49th and 50th minute of play. Quinones first goal was off an assist from O��?Loughlin while the second came off an assist from Rheannon Hotvet (Fr., Savage, MN) Quinones now posts nine goals on the season. North Dakota got its second goal off a penalty kick in the 80th minute. USD, who improves to 4-8 overall, finished the game with five shots on goal while UND had eight shots on goal. Goalkeeper, Jen Ogren (So., Raymore, MO) finished the game with six saves while playing all 90 minutes. Halbach, who scored one goal in the game, is now second all-time in school history for career goals as she has 29. The Coyotes will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 10 playing York College in York, NE at 3 p.m.
