Vermillion School District
participating in PDC The Vermillion School District is participating in USD?s Professional Development Center (PDC) again this school year. The PDC began in 1993 and was created to connect and support the learning of experienced and beginning teachers. The program utilizes the practice of mentoring newly certified, licensed teachers over an extended period of time. Students experience an enriched learning environment where beginning teachers with new ideas and fresh vision, combine with veteran teachers? experience and skill. A strong component of the PDC is that the mentors and new teachers are enrolled in graduate programs in the School of Education at USD, studying and learning together while bringing that expertise directly into the classrooms. Kim Johnson is mentoring the first and second grade positions. She has 12 years of teaching experience, the last 11 of which have been in Vermillion. In addition to working on various district projects, she is working on a master?s degree in elementary administration. Nichole Tarr is mentoring the high school math and second grade positions. She has 10 years of teaching experience, the last six of which have been in Vermillion. She is working on a degree in technology for education and training along with a variety of district projects. He is pursuing his degree in technology for education and training, and is very excited to be back in the Vermillion Public School system. Mary Fink is teaching first grade this year at Austin Elementary. She graduated in May from The University of South Dakota with a degree in elementary education, after completing her student teaching experience in first grade at Austin Elementary in Vermillion.
