Dorothy Walz Dorothy Walz, 93, of Vermillion, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2008 at the Sanford Vermillion Hospital. Dorothy Christopherson was born Dec. 10, 1914 in Vermillion to Richard and Clara (Severson) Christopherson; she attended several country schools and graduated from Vermillion High School in 1932, and married Carl Walz on December 24, 1932 in Vermillion. Dorothy and Carl lived on several Clay County farms until their retirement in 1976. They retired to their home in Vermillion, and spent their winters in Arizona for about 30 years. In 2001, they moved into the assisted living in Vermillion, and in 2003 into the care center. Survivors include her six sons, Melvin, Marvin (Carol) and Jerry (Linda) all of Vermillion, Roger (Avis) of Alcester, Alan (Bertha) of Yankton, and Don (Andrea) of Sioux Falls; and three daughters, Janet (Dave) Macy of Vermillion, Janice (Monte) Hartung of Sioux Falls, and Janell (Steve) Manning of Tucson, AZ. She is also survived by four sisters-in-law, Fern Ostrem of Centerville, Margaret Peterson of Wickenburg, AZ, Pearl Walz of Sioux City, IA, and Udyene Christopherson of Vermillion; and 19 grandchildren, 26 great- grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl; a brother, Dallas Christopherson; and a sister, Opal Lindstrom. Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermillion with burial to follow in the Bluff View Cemetery in Vermillion. Visitation was Monday, Nov. 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion. For online condolences and obituary please visit hansenfuneralhome.com.
