West Player of the Week The University of South Dakota��?s Laura Slagter and Houston Baptist��?s Jessica Barrerra were named the Great West Conference Players of the Week for the week ending Nov. 16. Slagter earns her first Defensive Player of the Week honor, but her second weekly honor overall as she was named Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 7. Slagter paced the USD defense with 59 digs and four blocks in three matches at the National Transitions Challenge this past weekend. She led the Coyotes to a 2-1 record and a runner-up finish. The senior had a brilliant performance in a hard-fought five game loss to Houston Baptist in the championship with 28 digs. She also added 18 digs against Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville and 13 digs versus Bryant University. The Roseville, MN, native provided some spark on the offensive end as well with 20 kills. Slagter and the Coyotes finished the year with a 23-4 mark, tying the school record for wins in a season.
