Stanek named player of week Tim Stanek, a punter on The University of South Dakota football team, has been named the Great West Conference's Special Teams Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 15, the league announced on Sunday, Nov. 16. Stanek (Jr., Walthill, NE) is the sixth Coyote player to earn a weekly GWC honor this season. Stanek averaged 46.5 yards per punt in the Coyotes' 42-20 win over Southern Utah on Saturday, Nov. 15. Stanek had three punts of 50 yards or more and also placed one inside the opposing 20-yard line. The win was the first-ever over a Division I FCS foe for USD and also helped extend the Coyotes' season winning streak to four games. For the season, Stanek is averaging 40.2 yards per punt and has 10 punts of 50 yards or more. He also has placed 11 punts inside the opposing 20-yard line. Earning GWC Offensive Player of the Week honors for a second straight week was Cal Poly quarterback Jonathan Dally, while Cal Poly safety David Fullerton was named the GWC Defensive Player of the Week. USD (6-4, 1-1 GWC) resumes action on Saturday, Nov. 22 at home against North Dakota. Game time is noon at the DakotaDome in Vermillion.
