Tree of Lights fundraiser to enhance services At this time, mammography is the best screening tool for breast cancer. It can find cancers at an early stage, when they are small and most responsive to treatment. Revolutionary full-field Digital Mammography is a technology which enhances breast care with new efficiencies for physicians and brings a peace of mind to patients through its speed and reliable electronic information. This state-ofthe- art technology offers women a high level of convenience by producing near-instant, easy-to-read computerized breast images. "Dakota Hospital Foundation recognizes the vital importance of screening mammography and the comfort patients realize in knowing they are receiving the latest in technology," said Jerry Johnson, president of the board of directors, Dakota Hospital Foundation. "The DHF Board of Directors has wholeheartedly identified digital mammography as its current fundraising project and is committed to bring this new service to Sanford Vermillion." Mammography services at Sanford Vermillion have consistently been accredited by the American College of Radiology for the past 15 years and were reaccredited in May 2008 for an additional three years. The addition of the latest technology in mammography will serve to enhance the excellent services that have been provided for so many years. Dakota Hospital Foundation is kicking off its second annual Tree of Lights fundraiser this week. Proceeds from the Tree of Lights project will assist DHF in fulfilling that commitment. The Tree of Lights will provide community members with the opportunity to purchase a light in memory of someone, in honor of someone or as a holiday greeting to a special friend or relative. The three story evergreen located at the corner of Main and Plum Streets at Sanford Vermillion has been designated for the touching display. Dakota Hospital Foundation will host a special Tree Lighting event during the Tree of Lights Open House on Sunday, Dec. 14. The open house is scheduled in conjunction with the USD Department of Music Holiday Concert. The holiday concert begins at 3 p.m. at the Vermillion High School Theatre for the Performing Arts. The Tree of Lights Open House is from 5 to 7 p.m. with the official lighting of the tree to take place at 6 p.m. The Tree of Lights will remain lit through the holiday season.
