University Art Galleries hosts Cliff Evans exhibit in November

University Art Galleries hosts Cliff Evans exhibit in November VERMILLION, S.D. – The University Art Galleries at The University of South Dakota will present "Cliff Evans: The Road to Mountain Weather," a three-channel moving image exhibition. This exhibition opens Nov. 5 and will be featured throughout the month of November in the Main Gallery of the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts with a public reception scheduled for Friday, Nov. 14 from 7 to 9 p.m. Evans is an Australian-born artist currently residing in Brooklyn, N.Y. He teaches video art at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Mass., and his work has received national attention from Art Forum, the Boston Globe and the New York Times. His moving image projection art creates a loop of collaged internet-found images of modern society, which become information overloads for viewers. According to Cory Knedler, chair of the USD Department of Art, Evans was invited to be one of this year's visiting artists because of the cutting edge nature of his work. Evans will present a lecture on his on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. in Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts 172. This event is also free and open to the public. Of his work, Evans says that "The Road to Mountain Weather" is a "personal artifice assembled from ideas and images found across the environment of the internet. The topography of the project is excessive, flat, quasi-random and circuitous, all qualities inherent within the environment of the web. However, a refashioning of the formal presentation and organization of this information was necessary in order to create, afresh, a view that was both personal and dramatic." The Main Gallery in the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and from 1 to 5 p.m. on weekends with free admission. Tours and special showings during non-public hours are available upon request. For more information about this exhibition, please contact The University of South Dakota Art Galleries Director John A.
