USD volleyball beats
UND for the third time The University of South Dakota volleyball team defeated the University of North Dakota for the third time this season sweeping the Fighting Sioux by scores of 25-20, 25-17 and 25-18 Nov. 8. The Coyotes outhit the Fighting Sioux as USD had a team hitting percentage of .259 compared to UND's .108 hitting percentage. Leading USD was Kristin Kritenbrink (So., Gretna, NE) with 15 kills while having a .275 hitting percentage. Heather Hult (Sr., Davis) was second on the team with nine kills and had a team-high .500 hitting percentage as she had zero errors in 18 attempts. Seniors Laura Slagter (Sr., Roseville, MN) and Kathleen Hruska (Sr. Sioux Falls) each added seven kills. Gina Baldwin (RJr. Mitchell) set up the offense recording 26 assists. On defense, Amber Kobus (Sr., Columbus, NE) led the Coyotes with 15 digs. Laura Slagter was the other player to record double-digit digs having 11 digs while also recording two block assists. North Dakota finished the match out-blocking USD 5-to-2. The Coyotes improved to 21-3 overall while UND falls to 23-6 on the year. USD will close out the 2008 season in Rhode Island at the Bryant National Transitional Tournament next weekend. South Dakota will begin the tournament facing Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14.
