Viola âÂ?Â?ViâÂ?Â

Viola â�?�?Viâ�? Venard Viola Rubie "Vi" Venard, 95, of Carlsbad, CA died Monday, Oct. 27, 2008 at Sunrise of La Costa. Funeral services were 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 5 at the United Church of Christ in Vermillion.  Burial was in Hawarden, IA.  George Boom Funeral Home of Sioux Falls is handling the arrangements. Vi was born Dec. 18, 1912 in Union County, South Dakota.  She and her sister, Mabel "Mabs" spent their childhood in Illinois after the death of their mother.  She attended beauty school and spent a short time as a hairdresser. Vi was united in marriage with Raymond L. "Rosie" Venard on Oct. 24, 1935.  The couple lived in Brookings, Redfield, and Huron before moving to Vermillion in 1946.  She resided there until she moved to the Inn at Westport in Sioux Falls in 2002.  In 2004 she relocated to California to be closer to her son, Terry and his family who visited her every day. Vi was a member of the United Church of Christ in Vermillion and the Ladies Auxiliary VFW.  She was an accomplished seamstress and cook.  She especially enjoyed fishing and camping trips.  She and Rosie enjoyed traveling and would spend most winters in California to be close to their grandchildren.  Later, her three great grandchildren became the delight of her life.  Family has always been her greatest source of joy. Vi is preceded in death by her parents, John and Alma Pierson; two sisters, Mildred "Mickey" Dodge and Mabel "Mabs" Pierson; and two brothers, Vernon and Carl "Bud" Pierson.  Also preceding her in death is her husband, Rosie and her grandson, Charles "Chuck" Venard. Survivors include her son, Terry and his wife Rhoda of Leucadia, CA;  One granddaughter, Jennifer and her husband, Randy Cox of Leucadia and her three great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Kelsey, and Crosby. Also included are many cousins, nieces, nephews and many, many friends, old and new.  She gave and received so much love and respect.  Hers was a life well lived.
