Woodard paper receives honor

Woodard paper receives honor History/government Professor Aaron Robert Woodard of Kilian Community College, Sioux Falls, was awarded first place out of 44 papers submitted at the West River History Conference in Rapid City Oct. 17-19 for his conference paper, "William Ashley, Jedediah Smith and the Arikara War of 1823." Professor Woodard also recently authored the book, Soft Fur and Iron Men-A History of the Fur Trade in South Dakota and the Upper Missouri. Woodard, a former Vermillion resident, is the son of Gloria Poling Woodard, also formerly of Vermillion.
