Extension service to host open house for military families The South Dakota Cooperative Extension Service will host an open house for military families Dec. 16 and 17. All South Dakota Cooperative Extension offices will participate during regular office hours on these two days. The Clay County Extension Office is located at 515 High Street and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Each office will have samples of newsletters and family publications available for families to view, as well as the opportunity to meet staff and check out local programs in their area. The South Dakota Cooperative Extension Service and Operation: Military Kids, a collaborative partnership between the Department of Defense and 4-H, to promote local support for families with members deployed through any of the military services, are sponsoring the event. Families may expect a warm welcome and heart-felt thank you's from the staff at the local offices, many of which have loved ones serving in the military. "We appreciate the sacrifices made by the entire family during a loved one's deployment," said Kathryn Reeves, an Extension 4-H/Youth Development Specialist. "We hope that military families will stop in and feel some Christmas cheer as they meet the staff and look through some of the resources available to them as citizens of South Dakota."
