Smith signs with USD Malcolm Gilreath, the head women's tennis coach at The University of South Dakota, has announced that Brittney Smith of Robins, IA, has signed a letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic career at USD. Smith is a senior at Linn-Mar High School in Marion, IA. She is a three-year letterwinner in tennis and qualified for the state tournament after winning the regional singles champion as a junior. She also was named to the All-Mississippi Valley Conference second-team as a junior. Smith finished with a 13-6 singles record as a junior while also posting a 14-4 record in doubles. As a freshman, Smith also received Academic Achievement honors. "I am very pleased to have Brittney join the USD community in the fall of 2009," Gilreath said. "She is a very well-rounded young lady who does well both on and off the court. She will quickly add to the depth of our team and her game will continue to develop."
