Tanager gymnasts

Sports Writer Yankton-Bon Homme outpointed Vermillion 121.35 to 110.05 in a gymnastics dual held at the VHS gym Dec. 23. The all-around champion for the night was Cassie Shafer of the Gazelles with a 32.45 total, followed by Vermillion's Elly Melby in second with 32.05. The Tanagers' Amber Walker placed fourth in the all-around with a 30.1 total. Melby reached her second in the all-around standings by winning the vault (8.95) and placing third on the uneven parallel bars (7.85), third on the balance beam (7.55), and fourth in floor exercise (7.75). Walker's evening included a fifth in the vault (8.25), second in floor exercise (8.5), and fourth on bars (7.55). Rory Tucker of Vermillion placed fifth on the beam (7.05). In junior varsity competition Y-BH won on team points by a margin of 86.95 to 40.75. The Tanagers' Alexis Reich placed fifth on the bars (2.45), third in floor exercise (4.95) and fifth in vault (7.4). The Tanager gymnasts will again compete at home on Thursday, Jan. 8, in a dual against West Central at 6:30 p.m.
