USD mean defeat Midland Lutheran for fourth straight win The University of South Dakota men's basketball team earned its fourth straight win with an 86-64 win over Midland Lutheran College Sunday in Vermillion. The Coyotes (7-5) used their balance (four players in double figures) and a 51-40 edge on the boards to extend their winning streak. USD was led by Steve Smith (Sr., Sioux Falls), who had 19 points and seven rebounds. Dylan Grimsley (Sr., Sioux City, IA) added 18 points and seven rebounds, while Jesse Becker (Sr., Plymouth, MN) collected 12 points, four assists and two steals. Roman Gentry (Jr., Sioux City, IA) also had a solid game in his Coyote debut with 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. The Warriors (4-11) cut the Coyote lead to 60-52 at one point in the second half before USD pulled away with a 15-2 spurt to take a 75-54 lead with 5:26 left in the game. USD led by as many as 22 in the second half. USD shot 43.5 percent (30-of-69) for the game from the field, and held Midland Lutheran to just 36.6 shooting from the field. USD held a 40-26 scoring edge in the paint and a 20-11 edge in second-chance points.
