Clayton E. Wheeler Clayton E. Wheeler, 85, of Vermillion, died Thursday, January 15, 2009 at the St. Lukeâ�?�?s Hospital in Sioux City, IA. Clay was born Feb. 17, 1923 in Spearfish, to Clayton and Eva (Rushton) Wheeler, and attended Country Schools. He served in the Army during WWII from 1943 â�?�? 1947 as a medical technician and married Carol Schnee on Oct. 29, 1960 in Belle Fourche. He had worked as a maintenance engineer for Interbake Foods in North Sioux City, IA. He was a lifelong member of the VFW in Vermillion. He is survived by two sons, Terry (Teri) Wheeler of Portland, OR, and Clayton E Wheeler III of Kissimmee, FL; five daughters, Carla (John) Utterback and Peggy (Randy) Kennedy all of Sioux City, IA, Charlotte Wheeler of Kissimmee, Evelyn Schnee of Bloomfield, KY and Jeri Lawrence of Milwaukee, WI. A sister, Flora (Buerl) Waters of Spearfish, and 10 grandchildren, Michael and Dusty Madsen, Jacquelyn and Jennifer Wheeler, Jason Davidson, Dustin and Jodi Wheeler, Jacob and Gabrielle Szpak and Patrick Weis. Also surviving him are four great grandchildren, Elisa and Livia Davidson, and Ava and Finn Wheeler, and a special family friend Terry (Linda) Weber of Vermillion. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Carol; a daughter, Sherry Langel; and a grandson, Scott Wheeler. Funeral services were 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20 at the Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion, with burial at 3:30 p.m. at the Graceland Park Cemetery in Sioux City, IA.
