Coyote track teams have strong showing The University of South Dakota menâ�?�?s and women's track and field teams hosted their second indoor meet of the season, the John Dalton Open, Saturday at the DakotaDome in Vermillion. The Coyotes posted strong finishes in both the menâ�?�?s and womenâ�?�?s events. The women finished in the top five in more than 20 events on the day, with five individual champions along with a first place finish from the 4 by 400 relay. The men had one individual first place finish along with winning the Distance Medley relay. For the women, Shaneka Parkes (Sr., St. Ann, Jamaiaca) was the champion in both the 60 meter dash (7.95) and the 200 meter dash (26.02) while Jenessa Filler (Sr., Crooks) earned second place finishes in both events with a time of 7.96 in the 60m dash and 26.12 in the 200m dash. Christina Roberts (Fr., Omaha, NE) also had a strong showing as she finished third in the 60m dash with a time of 8.12. Ramsey Fitzsimmons (Jr., Yankto) controlled the distance running events as she was the winner of the 1-mile run (5:06.08) and the 3,000m run (10:18.21). Natalie Newman (Fr., Overland Park, KS) was second in the 600m run with a time of 1:39.87, while Tianna Hurtado (Jr., Loveland, CO) also earned a second place finish in the 1,000m run. In the 400m dash, USD finished in third, fourth and fifth. Alexa Duling (Fr., Gregory) led the way at 1:01.44, followed by Kris Dubois (Fr., Dunkerton, IA) at 1:02.19 and Carrie Egging (Sr., Gurley, NE) at 1:02.87. Another USD pair finished first and second as Andrene Miller (Sr., Manchester, Jamaica) finished first (9.27) with Crystal Schiernbeck (So. Ida Grove, IA right behind with a time of 9.38 in the 60m hurdles. The Coyote women also finished first in the 4 by 400 meter relay (4:03.12) while finishing second in the Distance Medley Relay (12:55.68). The womenâ�?�?s field events were highlighted by Haley Peterson's (So., Norfolk, NE) second-place finish in the pole vault with a jump of 11-00.00 while USDâ�?�?s Megan Kahler (Jr., Dakota Dunes) was third clearing 10-00.00. Tia Haines (Jr., White Lake) and Miller also finished in the top five placing second and third in the long jump. In the triple jump, Natalie Stout (Sr., Crofton, NE) jumped 10.45m to earn third while Haines finished fourth (10.41). In the weight throw Amy Velthoff (Sr., Harlan, IA) placed third after a throw of 14.48m.?For the men the day was highlighted with Dominic Artisâ�?�?s (Jr., Brooklyn Park, MN) win in the 60m dash with a time of 6.98 and the Distance Medley Relayâ�?�?s first place title with a time of 10:47.09. USDâ�?�?s Jared Clement (So., LeMars, IA) finished second in the 200m dash (22.71) while Ben Oberle (Jr., Vermillion) finished fifth in that event (23.24). In the 400m dash USD was led by a third place finish from Bill Lane (Fr., Sioux City, IA) at 51.50 followed by a fifth place finish by Brian Skarda (Fr., Papillion, NE) at 52.78. Gable Andrews (Jr., Council Bluffs, IA) finished strong for the Coyotes in the 800m run as he claimed second place with a time of 2:01.23. Meanwhile, Rob Gregoire (Jr., Wakonda) finished fifth in the 1,000m run and Sean Fitzsimmons (Jr., Yankton) placed fourth in the 3,000m run. In menâ�?�?s pole vault, Tim Rust (Sr., Magnolia) was third after jumping 14-06.00 while Dusty Nowotny (So, Rapid City), Chad Pinkelman (Fr., Norfolk, NE) and Cody Linder (Fr., Plattsmouth,NE) finished third, fourth and fifth in the long jump. USDâ�?�?s Preston Scott (Sr., Parker) won the weight throw (15.95) while Ben Walters (Sr., Lennox) led the team in the shot put with a third place finish while also finishing second in the weight throw. USDâ�?�?s next meet will be the Graphic Edge Open on Saturday, Jan. 24 in the DakotaDome.
