Coyotes dominate William Penn, 104-59 Five players scored in double figures to help The University of South Dakota men's basketball team roll past William Penn, 104-59, for its 10th straight win at the DakotaDome in Vermillion. The Coyotes (13-5) have not lost since Dec. 2 and improved to 10-0 at the DakotaDome this season. Tyler Cain (Jr., Rochester, MN) paced a balanced Coyote attack with 22 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and three blocks. Cain finished the night 9-of-9 from the field. Dylan Grimsley (Sr., Sioux City, IA) added 18 points and six rebounds for the Coyotes, while Jesse Becker (Sr., Plymouth, MN) had 16 points and six assists. Roman Gentry (Jr., Sioux City, IA) added 16 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Louie Krogman (Fr., White River) chipped in with 13 points, six rebounds and four assists. USD controlled the first half with its defense serving as a big catalyst. The Coyotes held William Penn to just 21.4 percent shooting (6-of-28) and held the Statesmen to just 18 first-half points as USD built a 51-18 halftime lead. The 18 first-half points were the fewest USD has surrendered in a first half this season. Meanwhile, USD's offense was clicking on all cylinders in the opening frame, shooting 60.6 percent (20-of-33) from the field. Cain had 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists, two blocks and two steals, while Krogman had 10 points and three assists. Becker also added 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting, while Grimsley had nine points. Rane Mergen (Sr., Dell Rapids) gave USD good minutes off the bench with four points and four assists. The Coyotes continued their strong play in the second half as they extended their lead to as many as 51 points in the second half. For the game, USD shot 50 percent (34-of-68) from the field, and held a 51-43 edge in rebounds. The Coyotes were 24-of-36 from the free-throw line compared to 11-of-26 for William Penn (11-6). The Coyotes spread the ball around as well with 26 assists as a team. The game marked the first time this season that USD had eclipsed the 100-point plateau. Mitch Begeman (Sr., Sioux Falls) added five rebounds, three assist and three steals for USD. All 10 Coyote players who saw time scored in the win. The Coyotes resume action on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at home against Mount Marty College. Game time is 7 p.m. at the DakotaDome in Vermillion.
