Coyotes move winning streak to 13 games Roman Gentry scored 26 points and four other players scored in double figures as The University of South Dakota cruised to a 98-77 win over North Dakota Saturday in Grand Forks. It was the 13th straight win for USD (16-5), which has not lost since Dec. 2. The latest Coyote win came against USDâ�?�?s former North Central Conference rival UND. Both teams are in their first year of competing at the Division I level. Gentry (Jr., Sioux City, IA) had 26 points to pace the Coyotes, which was just four points short of his season high. Gentry finished 11-of-16 from the field. Louie Krogman (Fr., White River) added 20 points for USD, while Dylan Grimsley (Sr., Sioux City, IA) chipped in with 19. Jesse Becker (Sr., Plymouth, MN) added 11 points and Tyler Cain (Jr., Rochester, MN) had another double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds in the win for USD. Grimsley helped the Coyotes to get off to a quick start, scoring seven of the teamâ�?�?s first 11 points as USD built an 11-2 advantage five minutes into the game. The Coyotes were far from through in the opening half as they stretched the lead to 29-10 with 8:58 left. A big spark for USD was provided by Roman Gentry, who scored 11 points in a span of three minutes to help the Coyotes push the lead well into double digits. Grimsley and Gentry combined for 22 of the Coyotesâ�?�? first 31 points. North Dakota cut the Coyote lead to seven, but USD answered late in the first half with a 7-2 stretch to go into halftime with a 44-32 lead. In the first half, the Coyotes displayed the balance that has helped them win 13 straight games. Gentry and Grimsley had 11 points each, with Cain adding 10 and Jesse Becker five. The Coyotes shot 62.1 percent (18-of-29) in the opening 20 minutes, compared to just 42.3 percent for the Sioux. USD held a commanding 22-6 edge in rebounds in the first half, led by Cain with seven and Grimsley with five. Cain also had five assists. Louie Krogmanâ�?�?s three and subsequent jumper about three minutes, followed by a long-range jumper by Steve Smith, pushed USDâ�?�?s lead to 56-38 four minutes into the second half. From there, USD maintained a double-digit advantage on its way to a big road win. Grimsley added six rebounds for USD. Cain led with six assists, while Krogman had five and Becker and Grimsley four each. Gentry had two steals. The Coyotes shot a blistering 62.9 percent (39-of-62) from the field, including 10-of-19 from the three-point range. USD had a 38-18 edge in rebounds. USD will return home on Saturday, Jan. 31 for a rematch against North Dakota. Game time is 3 p.m. at the DakotaDome in Vermillion.
