Martha Abild Martha Abild was born on July 23, 1911, in Wakonda, to the late Ole and Marie (Bystol) Lunde. In 1926, she was baptized and confirmed at the Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church near Wakonda. She received her early education in a one room school house in Bethel Township, Yankton Township, South Dakota and graduated from Wakonda High School in the Class of 1929. On May 29, 1930, Martha was united in marriage to Marion W. Abild at the Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church near Wakonda. After marriage, they continued to live in near Wakonda until moving to Kenneth, MN in 1940 where Martha was a clerk at the Kenneth Grocery Store. In 1952, they moved to Riverside, CA. Marion passed away on Aug. 1, 1978, in Minneapolis. After his death, Martha continued to live in California until moving to the Windom Area in September of 2004. She became a resident of the Sogge Good Samaritan Center in Windom in January of 2006 where she remained until passing away on Monday morning, Jan. 19, 2009, at the wonderful age of 97 years. Martha was a staunch member of the Democratic Party and enjoyed raising roses in her earlier years in California. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and as being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her family very much. Martha is survived by her one son, Donald Abild and his wife, Phyllis of Windom, MN; two daughters-in-law, Carol Abild of Brooklyn Center, MN and Virginia Abild of Windom, MN; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many more relatives too numerous to mention. Martha is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marion W. Abild; two sons, Ronald and Gerald Abild; two brothers, Eiel and Maurice; seven sisters, Amanda, Bertha, Ann, Inga, Clara, Della, and Elaine. Martha was loved very much and will be greatly missed by her family. Blessed be her memory.
