USD track successful at Graphic Edge Open The University of South Dakota menâ�?�?s and womenâ�?�?s track and field teams continued excellence in their third home track meet of the season, the Graphic Edge Open held in the DakotaDome in Vermillion, S.D.â�?¨â�?¨ USDâ�?�?s assistant coach and Olympian Derek Miles made his vaulting debut of 2009 and posted a mark that is the top mark in the world this year as he cleared the bar at 19-01.00. Along with that performance, the womenâ�?�?s team earned four individual first place finishes and a first place finish in the 4x400m relay while the men had 14 top-five finishes at the meet.â�?¨â�?¨ On the womenâ�?�?s side, USD came away as the top three finishers in the 60m dash as Shaneka Parkes (Sr., St. Ann, Jamaica) was first (7.87) followed by Jenessa Filler (Sr., Crooks) (7.97) and Christina Roberts (Fr., Omaha, NE) (8.08). The trio also dominated the 200m dash finishing in the same order; Parkes (25.65), Filler (26.01) and Roberts (26.65). â�?¨â�?¨ South Dakotaâ�?�?s Allie Smith (Sr., Wahpeton, ND) was the champion in the 400m dash (59.90) while fellow Coyote Kris Dubois (Fr., Dunkerton, IA) crossed the line second with a time of 1:00.05.â�?¨â�?¨Alexia Dunlop(Jr., Woodbine, IA) and Tianna Hurtado (Jr., Loveland, CO) finished in the top five in the womenâ�?�?s one mile run as Dunlop was fourth (5:21.52) and Hurtado finished fifth (5:27.75).â�?¨â�?¨ Emma Erickson (So., Gayville) earned the win in the 800m beating the next opponent by six seconds as she posted a time of 2:13.12 in the event. â�?¨â�?¨ Heather Kuhlmann (Sr., Nebraska City, NE) had a strong showing in the 5000m run as she pulled of a second place finish with a time of 18:09.69. Crystal Schiernbeck (So., Ida Grove, IA), Alexa Duling (Fr., Gregory) and Andrene Miller (Sr., Manchester, Jamaica) also held their own earning fifth, sixth and seventh place finishes in the 60m hurdles.â�?¨â�?¨ Leading the women in the field events was Natalie Stout (Sr., Crofton, NE) with a second place finish in the triple jump (35-01.00). While, in the pole vault South Dakotaâ�?�?s Haley Peterson (So., Norfolk, NE) and Megan Kahler (Jr., Dakota Dunes) were fourth and fifth and Ashlea Johnson (Fr., Yankton) and Christina Roberts (Fr., Omaha, NE) placed third and fourth in the long jump.â�?¨â�?¨ Powering through in the womenâ�?�?s weight throw was Danielle Dornbusch (Sr., Papillion, NE) (fourth place), Shara Thompson (So., Brookings)(sixth place), and Amy Veltoff (Sr., Harlan, IA) (seventh place). The men were highlighted by a third place finishes from Jared Clement (So., LeMars, IA) (60m dash) and Dominic Artis (Jr., Brooklyn Park, MN) (200m dash). While Tyler Williamson (Jr., Estelline) finished second in the 400m dash followed by a fourth place showing from Ben Oberle (Jr., Vermillion).â�?¨â�?¨Rob Gregorie (Jr., Wakonda) topped the menâ�?�?s one mile run posting a time of 4:27.84, while Sean Fitzsimmons (Jr., Yankton) was third in the 5000m run.â�?¨â�?¨Gable Andrews (Jr., Council Bluffs, IA) , Beau Hoodjer (Jr., Lincoln, NE) and Tane Owens (Sr., Pierre) earned a top five finishes. Andrews in the 800m run after posting a time of 2:01.47, Hoodjer in the menâ�?�?s high jump and Owens in the pole vault.â�?¨â�?¨Cody Linder (Fr., Plattsmouth, Neb.) placed second in the triple jump with a jump of 45-11.75, while in the menâ�?�?s shot put Ben Walters (Sr., Lennox.) took fourth followed by Preston Scott (Sr., Parker) in fifth. Scottâ�?�?s best event of the day was the weight throw as he won the event with a throw of 57-00.75.â�?¨â�?¨USD will be back in action on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 30-31 in Cedar Falls, Iowa at the Jack Jennett Invite hosted by the University of Northern Iowa.
