Barry Strand Barry Strand, 42, of Burbank, formerly of Mitchell, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009, of a heart attack at the Sanford Medical Center in Vermillion. Services will be Friday, Feb. 6, 10:30 a.m., at the Wesleyan Church in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell. Barry Charles Strand was born April 15, 1966 and died Feb. 1, 2009 at Sanford Medical Center, Vermillion, of a heart attack. He was the beloved son of Ed and Lois (Aarnes) Strand, Mitchell. He was raised attending the Wesleyan Church in Mitchell where he was active with the church youth group. He belonged to the Civil Air Patrol and Mitchell Gun Club. He attended Mitchell grade school, middle school and graduated from Mitchell Senior High in 1984 where he lettered in football. He earned a bachelor of science degree and a masters degree at The University of South Dakota, Vermillion and was planning to receive a doctorate in May 2009. He has taught at Western Iowa Technical Community College in Sioux City, IA for more than 15 years and also taught college credit classes for senior students at Hinton High School, Hinton IA and Woodbury Central High School, Moville, IA. Barry was an avid fisherman and was active in moto cross and car racing for many years and won many trophies. Barry loved his family and his many friends. He was thoughtful and forgiving and always had a positive attitude. He leaves his dad and mother; his sisters, Sherry and husband, Bill Nebelsick, Mitchell, Ramona and husband, Mark Hirsch, Rapid City; eight nephews and nieces; and two great nieces; one great nephew; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents. Barry is loved and remembered by all of us and his dear friends.
