Coyote men down Morningside, women fall to UNO The University of South Dakota menâ�?�?s swimming and diving team defeated Morningside College, 153-64 in a dual Saturday in Vermillion, while the USD womenâ�?�?s swimming and diving team lost to Nebraska-Omaha, 161-131. It was a good meet for the Coyotes as four school records were broken, including two by the menâ�?�?s team and two by the womenâ�?�?s team. For the USD men, Pat Albertson (Sr., Bozeman, MT) set a new record in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.59. Thad Stoddard (Fr, Douglas, WY) set a new school record in the 100 backstroke at 58.91. Setting records for the USD women were Elizabeth Hoffman (Fr., Eureka) who won the 400 freestyle with a time of 4:33.00, and the Coyotesâ�?�? 800 freestyle relay, consisting of Hoffman, Mary Klima (Sr., Leavenworth, KS), Rita Buschbacher (So., Brighton, MI) and Sara Holman (Sr., Bloomington, MN), set a new mark with a time of 9:01.67. The Coyote men had several other first-place finishes as well. Albertson also won the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:05.92 and was part of two winning relay teams for the Coyotes. USDâ�?�?s 200 medley relay, consisting of Stoddard, Bridger Miller (So.,Upton, WY), Albertson and Dane VanArkel (Fr., Colorado Springs, CO), was victorious with a time of 1:48.68. The Coyotesâ�?�? 200 freestyle relay, consisting of Stoddard, Albertson, Miller and Terry Rolfe (Fr., Newcastle, WY), earned the victory with a time of 1:38.47. Rolfe won the 1,500 freestyle with a time of 18:02, while Ray Wieser (So., Vacaville, CA) captured the win in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.82). Jody Lutz (Jr., Ardmore, OK) won the 200 butterfly as well at 2:22.62, with VanArkel winning the 50 freestyle with an effort of 25.16. Joseph Dolan (Fr., Omaha, NE) earned the win in the 400 freestyle after swimming a time of 4:32.27.Chris Hause (Fr., Overland Park, KS) won both diving events for USD as well. In addition to the records set by Hoffman and the 800 freestyle relay, several Coyote women had strong finishes as well. Stacy Bjorlie (Sr., Austin, MN) won the 50 freestyle with a time of 28.13 for USD. Erin Wagoner (Sr., Newcastle, WY) captured the title in the 100 butterfly (1:06.21). Hannah Roetzel (So., Newcastle, WY) was victorious in the 3-meter diving with a score of 213.17. USDâ�?�?s teams resume action at 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6 at home with the USD Diving Invite. The meet continues on Saturday, Feb. 7 at the DakotaDome pool.
