Sportswriter The Vermillion girls junior varsity team finished the basketball season by winning two of its last three games and winding up with a 3-13 record. "The girls struggled offensively this year but finished the season strong," said Coach Lori Jerred. "Our team has come a long way, playing much better toward the end of the season. We faced some pretty tough competition, playing against a lot of varsity players." The Tanagers pulled away from a 20-18 halftime lead over Wagner with a 17-point third quarter and beat the Red Raiders, 42-34. Sarah Szymonski scored 10 points, Morgan Erickson eight, Kenzie Huska six and Carlee Sorensen 6. In a 39-18 loss to Harrisburg Huska and Szymonski shared the team-high scoring lead with six points each. Vermillion led 20-6 at halftime and went on to whip Dakota Valley, 28-18. Erickson scored 10, Huska six and Claire Jones six. West Central handed the Tanagers a 34-15 loss. Erickson with six and Szymonski with five led Tanager scorers.
