Sportswriter A 63-31 loss to Wagner last week brought Vermillion's girls basketball campaign to the end of the regular season with a 3-16 record. The Tanagers played in the District 8A tournament on its home court this week, and the champion emerging from that event will play for a state tournament berth in the regional title game Tuesday. The Wagner team that blew through the VHS gym last Tuesday didn't look like a mediocre .500 team.  "There was nothing inconsistent about them that night," said Coach Jamie Parish.  "We were in trouble before we even looked up at the scoreboard." It was 17-4 after one quarter and 38-15 at halftime. "Offensively we weren't making shots, even some layups," Parish noted.  "Against their press we threw the ball away too much.  We have to make better decisions with the ball." Kelly Amundson and Hannah Nehlich-Arobba had six points each to lead VHS scoring.  Those two and Sierra Allen all had six rebounds apiece.  Lexi Regnerus contributed three assists. "The kids have continued to play hard despite the illness and injuries that have cropped up," Parish said.  "But we have to focus on every play from start to finish."
