Blood drive scheduled at Vermillion High School Community Blood Bank and Vermillion High School will be holding a blood drive on Monday, March 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Vermillion High School. "We have seen a 25 percent decrease in donations in the last couple of weeks, primarily due to flu and illness," states Ken Versteeg, executive director, Community Blood Bank. "Community Blood Bank uses 550 units of blood per week to meet the needs of patients. Donating blood is a very easy way to impact a patient's life and the only way to ensure an adequate blood supply for the community." Community Blood Bank is a non-profit cooperative of Avera McKennan and Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Community Blood Bank is the sole provider of blood and blood products to 29 local hospitals including Sanford Vermillion Medical Center. Blood that is donated with Community Blood Bank stays within the local area for local patients. Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good general health the day of the donation. Please bring identification with you. It is recommended that a person eat and drink plenty of fluids prior to donating blood. For more information log onto www.cbblifeblood.org. Walk-ins are welcome.
