SD Mines signs 2-sport
athlete from Vermillion The South Dakota School of Mines athletic department recently signed another double-sport athlete in Wyatt Hunter-Johnson. The Vermillion native will join the Hardrocker football team in the fall of 2009 and then compete for the SD Mines track and field team during the 2009-10 indoor and outdoor seasons.  In his high school football career, Hunter-Johnson was an offensive lineman for Vermillion High School and helped the Tanagers to a 6-4overall record in 2008. He measures in at 6-foot-5-inches and weighs 290 pounds and would be a welcome addition to the Hardrocker frontline.  "Wyatt has the size and strength to be a very good prospect," said Hardrocker head football coach Dan Kratzer. "We are looking forward to working with him."  For the SD Mines track and field squad, Hunter-Johnson will be utilized in the throwing events. With his size and frame he should make an immediate impact to the Hardrocker roster.  "Wyatt is an athlete that has tremendous potential in the throwing events, said Hardrocker head track coach Jerry Schafer. "He missed the 2008 season due to a shoulder injury so we're very anxious to see how he performs this spring.  We project Wyatt to develop into a top level thrower."  While attending SD Mines, Hunter-Johnson plans to take up a major in either chemical or mechanical engineering.
