Tiahrt to participate in scholarship competition Skylar Tiahrt, Vermillion, was among over 250 outstanding high school students, representing 14 states, to participate in a Northwestern College scholarship day recently. The students were on campus in January and February for interviews and a writing competition. Northwestern College faculty, staff and students evaluated them on the basis of their potential for academic success, leadership and effective Christian service. The participants were students who had already qualified for Northwestern College honor scholarships and were competing for additional funding to their presidential or collegiate scholarships. The top six presidential scholarship winners will be designated Norman Vincent Peale Scholars and receive $56,000 over four years of study at Northwestern. Criteria for the Peale Scholar candidates included a ranking within the top 10 percent of their high school class or a minimum 3.5 grade point average, and a minimum ACT score of 26. Northwestern College is a Christian college of more than 1,200 students in Orange City, IA. Northwestern provides an education that combines academic rigor with a faith perspective.
