April Students of the Month named Michael Oberle and Emily Holoch are the recipients of the Vermillion High School April Students of the Month Award. These seniors are finishing stellar efforts in their high school careers and will be rewarded with a $100 scholarship from First Bank & Trust. Oberle "is a role model for the children of Vermillion and will accept this award with modesty and heartfelt appreciation," as noted in his faculty recommendation. He plans to major in biology at Black Hills State University in Spearfish. His activities have included track, National Honor Society, football, Quiz Bowl, baseball, and Science Bowl. His efforts in football gained him recognition as the Most Valuable Player and an Argus Leader Elite 45 selection. His parents are Susan and Rodney Oberle. Holoch "gives everyone a reason to belong in the class or the activity," according to her endorsement. "She is positive, cooperative and dependable." Her parents are Connie and Duane Holoch. A sampling of her activities includes Show Choir, German Club, Pep Band, theatre, Art Club and National Honor Society. She placed first locally and fourth at state in Senior FCS Judging. Holoch also plans to attend BHSU with a major in mass communications. This is the final selection of VHS seniors for the 2008-2009 school year. Previous award winners were Ji Wen Li and DJ Donahue-September, Philip Munkvold and Alicia Enterman-October, Rosalyn LaMie and Sam McBride-November, Chris Cameron and Shannon Jepsen-December, Lance Hubert and Leah Miller-January, Kayla Gale and Dan Davies-February, Shanon Skillman and Tony Thomas-March. Other students nominated were Rebecca Hawley, AJ Walker, Matt Andrews, Donica Crichton, Kelly O'Dea, and Mason Eichelberg.
