Blood drive scheduled Every three seconds someone needs the precious gift of blood. There is no other way to ensure an adequate blood supply except through the generosity of volunteers donating blood. Hy-Vee (525 West Cherry St., Vermillion) will host a community blood drive on Saturday, May 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The blood that you donate at this blood drive will impact your local blood supply and save local patients' lives. Donors must be at least 17 years of age (16 years old with a signed parent consent form), weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good general health. It is recommended that a person eat and drink plenty of fluid prior to donating blood. Community Blood Bank is the sole provider of blood for 29 local hospitals including Sanford Vermillion Medical Center, Sanford Medical Center, Avera McKennan Hospital, VA Medical Center and Avera Heart Hospital of South Dakota.
