Chamber Chat Chamber of Commerce/ Development Company 906 East Cherry Street Vermillion, SD 57069 605-624-5571 www.vermillionchamber.com   This Weeks Happenings: • The Vermillion Area Community Foundation is accepting proposals for projects to improve our community.  Forms for submitting proposals by groups or organizations are available at www.vermillionchamber.com or at the Vermillion Area Chamber & Development Company office.  While funds available are limited, the foundation can fully fund small one time requests or partially fund larger projects.  Your annual donations to the foundation will provide increasing funds each year for worthwhile projects. • USD Fine Arts student exhibits are on display through May at the Washington Street Arts Center.  • The Rocky Horror Show musical, presented by the University Theatre is April 22-25 at the Wayne S. Knutson Theatre in the USD Warren M. Lee Center.  For show times and tickets call 605-677-5400 or visit www.usd.edu/cfa/Theatre.  • VHS girls' golf invitational, Friday, April 24 at 9 a.m at home.  • Arbor Day tree planting with Jolley School second graders and teachers is Friday, April 24 at 1:30 p.m. at the high school boulevard on Norbeck Street.  Vermillion Parks Department and Vermillion Garden Club will assist with planting 12 trees.  The public is invited to attend.  • National Music Museum's Brown Bag Lunch Program will feature violists I-Chun Chiang and Gideon Carlisle performing Bach, Viola, and Inspired on Friday, April 24 from 12:05-12:55 p.m.  Free and open to the public. • VHS track, Friday, April 24,  4 p.m. at Lennox. • Artists Biography Project Reception featuring biographies of area artists written by USD students will be at the Vermillion Area Arts Council, 202 Washington St., on April 24 from 7-9 p.m.  Free and open to the public.  Refreshments will be served. • USD Music Faculty Concert, Friday, April 24 at 8 p.m. in the Colton Recital Hall at the Warren M. Lee Center.  Open to the public at no charge. • VHS Prom, Saturday, April 25 at Vermillion High School.  Grand March starts at 7:45 p.m.   Next Weeks Happenings: • Seventh and eighth grade track, Tuesday, April 28, 4 p.m. at Yankton. • USD Brass Choir in Concert, Tuesday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Wayne S. Knutson Theatre in the Warren M. Lee Center.  Open to the public at no charge. • Vermillion Parks and Recreation Summer 2009 youth and adult recreation program registration, including Red Cross swimming lessons, will be held on Wednesday, April 29 from 3:30-7 p.m. at the Armory. • USD Symphonic and Concert Bands in concert, Wednesday, April 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Wayne S. Knutson Theatre in the Warren M. Lee Center.  Open to the public at no charge. • Dedication ceremony of Vermillion's new city hall is Thursday, April 30 at 1:30 p.m., 25 Center St.  Program and ribbon cutting followed by building tours and open house.  Everyone is welcome to our Sesquicentennial Legacy Project! • National Music Museum's Brown Bag Lunch Program will feature Kyai Rengga Manis Everist Gamelan performed by USD Tatag Gamelan Ensemble on Friday, May 1 from 12:05-12:55 p.m.  Free and open to the public. • Prairie Fest featuring seven live bands will be Friday, May 1 from 4:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. at the Ufford Hills Event Grounds, 3821 E. Main St., Vermillion.  This event is being sponsored by The Dakotans and Hy-Vee.  Advance event tickets are $8, camping $10, at the door event tickets are $10, camping $15.  Proceeds to benefit Sanford Children's Hospital.  Tickets are available at Hy-Vee.  Call Casey at 605-759-8393 for more information.  Everyone welcome! • Spring Into the Arts Festival will be Friday, May 1 from 8-10 p.m. and Saturday, May 2 from 3-11 p.m. at the Vermillion Area Arts Council, 202 Washington St.  There will be art exhibits, music, art sales, literature readings, hors d'oeuvres, and more!  Admission: $5 adults, $2 children under 12.  Open to the public.  See www.vaac.org for more details. • USD men's and women's golf host the University of North Dakota at The Bluffs Golf Course on May 2-3. • USD Symphony Orchestra and Choral Ensembles present their spring concert on Saturday, May 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the Wayne S. Knutson Theatre in the Warren M. Lee Center.  Open to the public at no charge.   Upcoming Events – Mark Your Calendars! • National Music Museum's Brown Bag Lunch Program will feature a flute and tuba duo performing The Baroque to Broadway:  Celebrating 350 Years of Great Music! on Friday, May 8 from 12:05 to 12:55 p.m.  Free and open to the public. • Vermillion Garden Club plant sale is Saturday, May 9 from 9-11a.m. at the fair grounds on High Street. Everyone welcome! • USD spring commencement at the DakotaDome is Saturday, May 9 at 9a.m. • Memorial Day weekend celebration will be celebrating and honoring local men and women who have served in the military.  This is a sesquicentennial event!  More information will follow. • Annual ice cream social, sponsored by the Clay County Historical Society, will be held on Thursday evening, June 18  from 5-7 p.m. at the Austin-Whittemore House grounds.
