Chamber Chat By the Vermillion Area Chamber of Commerce/ Development Company 906 East Cherry Street Vermillion, SD 57069 605-624-5571 www.vermillionchamber.com   Chamber Business: • In preparation for our annual July 4th Celebration we are offering the opportunity to various organizations within the community to showcase their services at this popular community event.  Organizations in the past have used this opportunity to do fundraising either through selling food or merchandise or by having an activity set up for event goers.  As in previous years, the event will be held at Barstow Park from 6 p.m. to dark, followed by fireworks.  Entertainment options will include music and an activity area for kids with games and inflatable's.  If you would like to participate or have questions regarding this event, please contact Carly at the VCDC office 624-5571 or email carlyh@vermillionchamber.com.   This Week's Happenings: • Quilt Show at W.H. Over Museum through April 17 from 1-4 p.m.  Vermillion area quilters will display both past and present quilts including a Sesquicentennial quilt.  A Sesquicentennial Event! • USD Fine Arts Student Exhibits are on display through May at the Washington Street Arts Center. • National Music Museum's Brown Bag Lunch Program will feature "Rose Songs: A Dozen from American Popular Music'" on Friday, April 17 from 12:05-12:55 p.m.  Free and open to the public. • Seventh and Eighth Grade Track, Friday, April 17, 4 p.m. at home. • VHS Boys' Tennis, Friday, April 17, 4 p.m. at Mitchell. • USD Women's Softball host Jamestown College Friday., April 17, 4 p.m. at the DakotaDome softball complex. • USD Music Recital featuring the voice students of Dr. Gesteland on Friday., April 17, 7:30 p.m. in Colton Recital Hall in the Warren M. Lee Center.  Free and open to the public. • Spring Salad and Sandwich Luncheon on Saturday, April 18 from 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. at St. Agnes Gym.  Tickets are $6 each and may be purchased in advance or at the door.  This fundraiser benefits the Vermillion Senior Center and is sponsored by the Friends of St. Agnes and members of the center.  Open to the public. • Fun and Games in the Community Room of the Vermillion Public Library is Saturday, April 18 from 1-4 p.m.  Engage in mental stimulation by playing board games and putting jigsaw puzzles together.  Anyone ages 12 and up is invited to attend this enjoyable activity.  There will be a wide variety of challenging and interesting games and puzzles available.  Extra games and puzzles are welcome.  Drinks and snacks will be provided. • USD Music Recital featuring Jessica Mathison is Saturday, April 18 at 2 p.m. at the National Music Museum.  Free and open to the public. • Veterans Resource Center benefit concert featuring Shawn Mayer, 2008 Nashville Star finalist, and friends will take place Saturday, April 18 at Valiant Vineyard's Winery.  Opening acts will start at 6 p.m. with Shawn and Band to start at 8 p.m.  Items will be available through silent auction and raffle tickets will be sold.  Tickets can be purchased for $10 at various local businesses or purchased at the door.  Please contact Jathan at 605-202-0101 or email VeteransResourceCenter@midconetwork.com with any questions. • USD's Opera Workshop presents an evening of scenes from popular operas, Saturday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Colton Recital Hall at Warren M. Lee Center.  Free and open to the public.   Next Weeks Happenings: • Pancake Sunday at the Senior Center will be Sunday, April 19.  Pancakes, sausages, juice and coffee are served by the senior men from 10 a.m.–1 p.m.  A $4 donation is requested.  Open to the public. • Seventh and Eighth Grade Track, Monday, April 20, time TBA, at Beresford. • All School Band Extravaganza, Tuesday, April 21, 7:30 p.m. at VHS. • Seventh and Eighth Grade Track, Thursday, April 23, 3:45 p.m. at Canton. • Classics and Flicks at the Vermillion Public Library in the Community Room will be Thursday, April 23 from 6-9 p.m.  O Pioneers! movie will be shown followed by a brief discussion facilitated by Jim Zuercher, Writing Specialist at Morningside College.  Hot drinks and popcorn will be provided.  Copies of this early 1900's classic are available at the Circulation Desk. • Arbor Day tree planting with Jolley School Second Graders will be Friday, April 24.  Please watch for time and place. • National Music Museum's Brown Bag Lunch Program will feature violists I-Chun Chiang and Gideon Carlisle performing Bach, Viola, and Inspired on Friday, April 24 from 12:05-12:55 p.m.  Free and open to the public.   Upcoming Events –  Mark Your Calendars! • Dedication of Vermillion's new City Hall building, Thursday, April 30 at 1:30 p.m. • National Music Museum's Brown Bag Lunch Program will feature Kyai Rengga Manis Everist Gamelan performed by USD Tatag Gamelan Ensemble on Friday, May 1 from 12:05-12:55 p.m.  Free and open to the public. • Prairie Fest featuring seven live bands will be Friday, May 1 from 4:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. at the Ufford Hills Event Grounds, 3821 E. Main St., Vermillion.  This event is being sponsored by the Dakotans.  Advance event tickets are $8, camping $10, at the door event tickets are $10, camping $15.  Proceeds to benefit Sanford Children's Hospital.  Please call Casey at 605-759-8393 for ticket information.  Everyone welcome!
