Edith M. Ellison Edith Margaret Lorraine Ellison, 87, of Alcester, died Friday, April 17, 2009, at Morningside Manor, Alcester. She was born on Jan. 10, 1922 in rural Beresford to Herman and Emma (Mossberg) Zetterlund. Edith attended Newdale Country School and The University of South Dakota, graduating from Beresford High School and Springfield Teachers College. She taught at Greenfield Country School for five years and for several years in the Beresford School District. On June 12, 1946, she married Morris Ellison. Shortly after they celebrated 60 years of marriage, Morris died on July 5, 2006. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church until it closed in 1988; she then joined Dalesburg Lutheran Church where she had been baptized, confirmed and married. Edith had a passion for Church Leadership, Global Missions, and Stewardship. This was evident in her commitment to the elected offices she held at the local, synod and national levels of Lutheran Church women's organizations. While working hand in hand with Morris on the farm, Edith also raised hybrid roses, sharing many beautiful bouquets and corsages with others. Edith is survived by her children, Marilyn (Rev. Marvin) Skogen of Casper, WY, Dr. David (Cindi) Ellison of Lino Lakes, MN, Julie Ann (Rick) Wood of Omaha, NE; 10 grandchildren; one sister, Helen (Edgar) Resel of Sioux Falls; several nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Melissa Skogen, and sister, Linnea Peterson. Visitation will be on Friday, April 24, from 5-8 p.m. with the family present at Iverson-Siecke-Kober Funeral Home, Vermillion. Services will be Saturday, April 25, at 11 a.m. at Dalesburg Lutheran Church, rural Vermillion. Burial is in Dalesburg Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Global Missions, c/o S.D. Synod ELCA, Augustana College, Sioux Falls, SD 57197, or Dalesburg Lutheran Church.
