over-width fertilizer applicators
temporarily lifted South Dakota has temporarily lifted an over-width transportation regulation on commercial fertilizer applicators. Over-width applicators that don't exceed 12 feet are allowed to operate during nighttime hours from April 22 until May 31. The temporary regulation change excludes the Memorial Day travel period, from sundown on Friday, May 22 through midnight on Monday, May 25. To legally operate during nighttime hours, fertilizer application vehicles must be equipped with flashing or rotating amber or white lights at the widest extremities of the vehicles. Under state law, over-width fertilizer applicators are not allowed on state highways during nighttime hours, but unseasonably wet soil conditions have delayed fertilizer applications. Consequently, Gov. Mike Rounds signed an executive order temporarily lifting the regulation in order to enable farmers to adequately fertilize fields.
