Skillman, Thomas receive academic honor Shanon Skillman and Tony Thomas received the First Bank & Trust March Student of the Month awards at Vermillion High School. These two seniors have demonstrated leadership in the classroom and in their activities. Each will receive a $100 scholarship from First Bank & Trust. Skillman "is a very motivated young woman and exhibits a certain kindness that is often rare in young people," according to her faculty endorsement. She plans to attend a university in California upon high school graduation. Some of her activities include National Honor Society, Show Choir, Natural Helpers, tennis, Young Democrats, dance team and class president. Her parents are Don and Gemma Skillman. Thomas plans to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Natural Helpers, theatre, band, Show Choir, Suicide Awareness, National Honor Society, football and Boys State are among his activities. Thomas "is an amazing leader," as related by the recommendation from his instructor. "Tony helps provide a positive environment and a great work ethic." His parents are Keith and Debra Thomas.
