Spring Into the Arts Festival planned The Vermillion Area Arts Council and USD IdEA Program students will host a Spring Into the Arts Festival on Friday, May 1, and Saturday, May 2, at the Washington Street Arts Center in Vermillion. The festival features an art exhibit by University of South Dakota honors students from 8-10 p.m. on Friday night and continues on Saturday with music and art sales from 3-5 p.m., hors d'oeuvres and beer, wine and non-alcohol drinks during a musical performance by Nick Schwebach and Owen DeJong (5-7 p.m.). A live auction of artwork from area artists (7-9 p.m.) and a closing musical performance top off the event. Children activities include face painting and creating flowered crowns in honor of May Day. Tickets to the event are $5 for adults and $2 for children under 12. The event is free to artists who participate in the sales or auction. The Washington Street Arts Center is located at 202 Washington Street in Vermillion. The Arts Council and IdEA program students are also selling $5 raffle tickets to win a private performance by musician Evie Johnson, who will bring her guitar and hors d'oeuvres for 12 to a private gathering. The proceeds from the raffle will sponsor Johnson's performance of Woody Guthrie songs in area schools. VAAC members who buy one ticket get another one free.
