Steven Heer Steven K. Heer, 55, of Vermillion, died Tuesday, March 24 at the Sanford Vermillion Hospital after a three year battle with prostate cancer. Steve was born Nov. 17, 1953 in Pierre, SD to Melvin and Edith (Roesler) Heer. He graduated from Vermillion High School, and received his BS from The University of South Dakota, and his MBA from the University of Minnesota. Steve married Ellen Coffelt on May 27, 1984 in St. Paul, MN, and was employed as a computer specialist for Personix Company in Roseville, MN. He was a loving father, husband, son and friend, and was an avid supporter of Bill W. and all the people who learned and benefited from Bill W's life. He was also a strong supporter of education, which is why he donated his body to the Sanford USD School of Medicine in hopes that he may help future generations.. Steve is survived by his wife Ellen of Vermillion; his adoring children, Alex, Caitlin and Stephanie and a son in law Tony Hanson all of Vermillion. His mother Edith of Vermillion also survives him, as well as many in-laws, family and friends that span the country. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his father, Melvin; and a brother, Alan. Steve's family would like to express their profound gratitude to the employees of the Sanford Vermillion Medical Center from the clinic and PCU to the housekeeping and cafeteria staffs. You have become not only amazing friends, but family as well. A celebration of Steve's life will be held at a later date.
