Tiahrt wins prestigious
Northwestern scholarship Skylar Tiahrt, Wakonda, was among 37 outstanding high school students to be awarded a prestigious Northwestern College scholarship for the 2009-10 academic year. The winners were selected from over 250 finalists who participated in a scholarship competition on campus in January and February. The competition included an interview and a writing composition. Northwestern College faculty, staff and students evaluated them on the basis of their potential for academic success, leadership and effective Christian service. Four types of honor scholarships were awarded. Criteria for the scholarship candidates included a ranking within the top 25 percent of their high school class or a minimum 3.25 grade point average, and a minimum ACT score of 23. Northwestern College is a Christian college of more than 1,200 students in Orange City, IA. Northwestern provides an education that combines academic rigor with a faith perspective.
