affiliates to
compete in Boston Marathon The Boston Marathon is the world's oldest annual marathon. The 26-mile race is a prestigious event as entrants must qualify to at a certified marathon to even compete. In the 2008 race, there were nearly 22,000 runners who competed. The entire state of South Dakota has 22 people running in the 2009 Boston Marathon. Of those 22 runners, two are from The University of South Dakota. USD Assistant Director of Development, Mark Maturi and Dr. Timothy Heaton, Chair of Earth Science and Physics at USD, will both be running in the marathon.
