USD earns three individual titles at Vance Butler Invite The University of South Dakota track and field teams had a strong showing at the Vance Butler Invite hosted by Augustana College in Sioux Falls on Saturday. The women's team took home two individual titles and earned the 4×400 relay title while the Coyote men were led by Ben Walters individual title in the shot put and also tallied many top five finishes. USD competed against individuals from South Dakota State, Augustana College, North Dakota and the University of Sioux Falls at the meet. Women's Highlights: Crystal Schienbeck (So., Ida Grove, IA) had a great mark as she was the top finisher in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.98. Haley Juhnke (So., Vivian) was fourth in that event (15.59). Ramsey Fitzsimmons (Jr., Yankton) won the 3000m run with a time of 10:02.35. Teammates, Kelsey Maloney (Sr., Sioux Falls) and Heather Kuhlmann (Sr., Nebraska City, NE) finished second and third in the event. Allie Smith (Sr., Wahpeton, ND) and Kris Dubois (Fr., Dunkerton, IA) finished second and third in the 400m hurdles with times of 64.77 and 65.06. In the 100m dash, USD's Christina Roberts (Fr., Omaha, NE) and Ashlea Johnson (Fr., Yankton) placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Johnson also placed fourth in the 200m dash (26.68) while Roberts was fifth in the 200m dash. Johnson also placed second in the long jump with a mark of 18 feet. In the field events, Tia Haines (Jr., White Lake) was second in the triple jump with a mark of 11.12m. Shara Thompson (So., Brookings) placed second in the javelin throw with a mark of 31.94m while Amy Velthoff (Sr., Harlan, IA) earned fourth in the hammer throw. South Dakota's women's 4×400 meter relay won with a time of 4:02.15. Men's Highlights: Ben Walters (Sr., Lennox) won the shot put with a throw of 51-7, with Preston Scott (Sr., Parker) placing fifth at 46-10.25. Walters was also second in the discus at 147-2. Jared Clement (So., LeMars, IA) was second in the 100-meter dash after posting a time of 10.89. Also placing second in the 400-meter hurdles was Bill Lane (Fr., Sioux City, IA), who posted a time of 55.82. Rob Gregoire (Jr., Wakonda) was second in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:22.62. Scott was second in the hammer throw at 153-2. In the triple jump, Cody Linder (Fr., Plattsmouth, NE) was third at 45-11.75, with Jeff Sebern (Fr., Brookings) fourth at 45-6.5. Tane Owens (Sr., Pierre) was third at 15-3. Beau Hoodjer (Jr., Lincoln, NE) was fifth in the high jump at 6-2. Sean Fitzsimmons (Jr., Yankton) was fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:05.67, while Chad Pinkelman (Fr., Norfolk, NE) was fifth in the long jump at 21-4.25. Caleb Peters (Fr., Minden, IA) finished seventh in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.08. USD's next meet will be on Saturday, April 11 when the Coyotes compete in the Nebraska Invitational in Lincoln, NE.
