USD Soccer Participates in Kicks for a Cure at Creighton University The University of South Dakota women's soccer team will begin the spring season playing in a Kicks for a Cure event hosted by Creighton University on Saturday, April 18, 2009. The Kicks for a Cure event started in 2006 and in just three short years more than $400,000 has been raised benefiting cancer research. The primary purpose of the weekend is to raise awareness for women's cancer education and prevention. It is also an opportunity to generate a broader interest in women's collegiate athletics. Teams participating in Kicks for a Cure have included Division I soccer teams Nebraska, Marquette, Notre Dame, Yale, Kansas, Minnesota, Iowa State, and host Creighton. This year South Dakota will be participating in the event. Each team will play one game Saturday at Creighton University Morrison Stadium. The University of South Dakota will take on the University of Kansas at 1:30 p.m. which will be followed by an autograph session at 3:15 p.m. Other activities of the Kicks for a Cure event include a soccer skills clinic for underprivileged youth conducted by participating teams, and a autograph session following collegiate games. A benefit banquet Friday night kicks off the weekend.
